But behind every RESTORER product is a story that’s about far more than wood and metal.
RESTORER was invented by Robert Kundel Jr., a lifelong innovator from Northeast Ohio with nearly four decades of manufacturing experience. While working in his family’s business, Robert saw the need for a better way to prepare and finish metal surfaces. Unable to find a solution that met his expectations, he designed and built one himself. What began as a solution to a manufacturing challenge evolved into an entirely new approach to wood and metal finishing.
Over the next seven years, Robert refined his invention through countless hours, setbacks, and opportunities. His finishing system attracted the attention of several of the world’s largest power tool companies, resulting in licensing agreements with nationally recognized brands. Yet despite the success, Robert believed God was calling him to something greater than simply building another tool company.
On May 18, 2012, that calling became unmistakably clear.
During the night, God gave Robert a vivid vision of a pastoral retreat center where weary pastors and ministry leaders from around the world could step away from the demands of ministry to find rest, renewal, and encouragement. When he awoke, he was overwhelmed by God’s presence, weeping uncontrollably and unable to speak for nearly thirty minutes. In that moment, he knew God had revealed not only a vision but the purpose for his life.
From that day forward, RESTORER became more than a business.
Robert made the decision to build the RESTORER brand independently, dedicating its future profits toward the creation of a one-of-a-kind retreat center devoted to restoring those who spend their lives serving others. Every innovation, every product developed, and every customer served moves that vision one step closer to becoming reality.
The name RESTORER reflects the heart of that mission. While our finishing system restores and transforms wood and metal into beautiful architectural surfaces, we believe true restoration comes through Jesus Christ, who restores lives, renews hope, and makes all things new.
